Healthy start to life in Laos
In north-west Laos, many villages are only accessible by foot or by boat. Access to education opportunities and healthcare facilities is difficult. Many people are malnourished. The mother and infant mortality rates are high. With the project “A healthier start to life”, mothers and children are to receive improved care. Health stations and communities will receive new water supplies and sanitation. Health workers will be equipped with motorbikes in order to get through the treacherous terrain to be able to reach remote villages. Almost 9,000 girls and boys in more than 140 villages are to get a better start to their lives.
